OLPC Canada and Canadian Sugar (Maple Syrup?) announced

The Belinda Stronach Foundation has launched a new OLPC Canada website describing their current plans, partners, and development of learning materials (and a new Sugar-like interface using aboriginal designs...) Thanks are due to BMO Financial and the Ontario government, and the other partners who helped bring the TBSF plans to fruition - most recently with a $750,000 grant.

In New Brunswick, Canada, over 3,500 middle school students received laptops through a one-laptop-per-child program over the past 5 years. They recently released a report card on initial outcomes of the first years of the program, which showed great improvement in writing and creative skills as well as in more quantitative areas.

One year of OLPC in Aboriginal Canada

Since their project launch last September, OLPC Canada has overseen a deployment of 2,500 XOs to students and teachers in 13 aboriginal communities across the country, under project manager Sean Longboat, with the oversight and support of the Belinda Stronach Foundation. Their team have partnered with a dozen groups across the country to make their work successful, including Tim Horton Children's Foundation, Air Canada, and BMO Financial. Most of their content, drawn from teachings and culture of the First Nations, was developed with the help of Ekomini.
